FedEx and a Fleet Management company in the States are going to purchase he BrightDrop EV600 electric vans that will be produced at the CAMI Plant in Ingersoll.
INGERSOLL - GM has already lined up two companies to purchase the BrightDrop EV600 electric vans that will be produced at the CAMI Plant in Ingersoll.
Mike Van Boekel, the Plant Chair for Unifor Local 88, says they're going to build the vans for FedEx and a fleet management company in the States.
"Merchants Fleet, which is a big delivery service out of the US, just confirmed yesterday that it has ordered just over 12,500 of the units which will be months of full production. It's really fantastic considering we've really only been out of the gate for two weeks on it."
He says it make sense for these companies to switch to electric vehicles.
"I think for delivery services and service vehicles it make a lot of sense. If you have 30, 40, 50 or even 10 trucks when you're done your day you just plug them in and you don't have to worry about running out of gas, starting the day with an empty tank or doing oil changes and all the service work."
CAMI will is planning to get started in November with bumper-to-bumper production hopefully beginning next January and full production should being in 2023, once the Chevy Equinox moves to Mexico.
