Ontario and Ottawa will invest over $2.5 million in order to improve water quality in the Lake Erie watershed through the LEADS program.
ONTARIO - The governments of Ontario and Canada are investing over $2.5 million to improve water quality in the Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair watersheds.
The work will be done through the Lake Erie Agriculture Demonstrating Sustainability or LEADS program. The project will include 220 farmer-led, cost share projects. The goal is to improve soil health and reduce the risk of nutrient losses on local farms in the Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair watersheds.
Local MPP and Minister of Agriculture Food and Rural Affairs Ernie Hardeman says this is great collaboration between government and local farmers.
“This initiative will go a long way to improving farmers’ soil health and the water quality in the Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair watershed areas. LEADS is a fantastic initiative that provides support for farmers to improve sustainable practices that improve water quality and soil health. Our government is making significant investments to protect and improve Ontario’s natural environment and LEADS is an important part of that plan.”
