Great Lakes Copper will have to pay a $75,000 fine following a serious workplace injury in St. Thomas two years ago.
ST. THOMAS - Great Lakes Copper Ltd. has been fined $75,000 after a worker was injured at their warehouse facility in St. Thomas.
The worker was injured after being hit by tubing that slid as it was moved. The incident happened back on November 4, 2019.
Great Lakes Copper plead guilty to the charge, which included a 25 percent victim fine surcharge as required by the Provincial Offences Act.
The injured worker was from a temp agency and was shadowing another employee while picking straight stock.
A loosely fitted cinch strap released, causing the bundle and tube rack to fall and hit the temporary worker. The temp was knocked into a nearby by desk and onto to the floor where they were pinned. The tube rack and tube bundle pinning the worker weighed about 1,300 lbs. The worker suffered injuries, however the extent of the injuries is unknown.
