Despite the chilly weather, people came out in droves to try some new art projects in Ingersoll
INGERSOLL - The Halls Creek Festival of Creativity is being hailed as a success.
The event held in Centennial Park over the weekend had many comparing it to the highly successful Canterbury Folk Festival. Oxford Creative Connection's Cultural Coordinator Mary-Anne Murphy says the festival provided some much needed colour to an otherwise grey weekend. "The concept behind the festival is actually hands on. A lot of people are at retirement age or looking forward to retirement and having a lot of time. We thought if we would put on a festival that people can come and try different art forms they would be more comfortable with maybe taking a class in that art form."
Among the over 40 exhibitors in attendance was Paula Robertson who was pleased with the festival over the weekend. "30 years I've been teaching at the creative arts centre and children's pottery there and I was in Nova Scotia when I heard about it. The Canterbury Folk Festival is very popular here in Ingersoll, and I though it would be along the same line. To me it is similar as far as the vendors go but for me it is a chance to show my work."
The cool temperatures didn't stop people from attending the Halls Creek Festival of Creativity. Being one of the last festivals of the year Murphy has big dreams for this event. "I'd like to see this festival become an annual festival. It has got a great potential to grow, we've seen tremendous growth in the last three weeks because of the festival. We are hoping that excitement continues into the following years and to make this festival one of the biggest we have in the county."
