Hardeman Promotes Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week

Oxford MPP Ernie Hardeman is reminding his constituents of the importance of carbon monoxide alarms.

WOODSTOCK - Oxford MPP Ernie Hardeman is promoting Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week.

Hardeman was at the Woodstock Fire Hall to show his awareness, and honour the horrible death of the Hawkins family almost 10 years ago.

Hardeman says that it took five years to get the private members bill, which made having Carbon Monoxide detectors in every home mandatory.

"We started this process to get the bill passed because of the Hawkins tragedy, who perished because they didn't know they had carbon monoxide in their house."

He adds carbon monoxide alarms save lives.

"If you have carbon monoxide in your home and if you don't have a detector then you will die, it's that simple. We wanted to make sure that each year as we go into the heating season that we remind people that if you don't have one get one. And if you have one make sure it's working and not outdated."

If you are without carbon monoxide detectors then you must get one, because it's the law and could lead you to some serious charges.
