Ernie Hardeman announces he is supporting Christine Elliott for the Provincial PC Leadership
OXFORD COUNTY - Ernie Hardeman believes Christine Elliott has the ability to get Ontario back on track.
Oxford's MPP publicly announced Monday he will be supporting Elliott in her bid for the Progressive Conservative leadership.
Hardeman says on a personal level is was difficult to select who he was backing. "On the principle of what they stood for, it wasn't difficult because I think Christine does represent -- in my opinion -- the direction we need to go forward to win the next election."
Hardeman says Elliott is the one with the experience and the greatest chance of moving the party forward in the next election. "She's looking at the results of the last election, not with the basis that we have to start over again and change the whole party platform. What she's looking at is saying 'what is it that we needed in the last election that would have changed the way people saw our party?' and I think that's what she is focused on."
Hardeman says he has worked with Elliott at Queen's Park for eight years and found her to be hard-working, dedicated and able to work with others to make Ontario better.
Hardeman says when he talks to the constituents in Oxford, there was no doubt that the majority wanted him to support Elliott.
The leadership voting will take place May 3 and 7 with officials results announced on May 9.
