An official ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 18 Vansittart Avenue for the Harvey Woods grand opening.
WOODSTOCK - A brand new affordable housing project in Woodstock is having its ribbon cutting ceremony this morning at 9 a.m.
Politicians and local dignitaries will be on hand for the grand opening of the Harvey Woods Lofts on Vansittart Avenue. The newly renovated old factory has been converted into 54 affordable apartment suites by Indwell. The old factory had sat vacant in Woodstock for the past 20 years before Indwell decided to turn it into an affordable housing complex. They have spent the past few years renovating the building and turning it into a space where people will be proud to live. Warden Mayberry tells Heart FM this will provide some much needed affordable housing for Oxford County. "It actually means that 54 more people will have a place that they can afford, that will give them excellent quality housing at a price they can afford. And by that we mean they will spend approximately 30% of their income on housing, so it isn't the end of our affordable housing needs but it's certainly one more step on the way and we are thrilled to see it completed."
Residents got a chance to look at the new apartment buildings at an Open House on June 4th and by all accounts were very impressed with what they saw. An environmental assessment still needs to take place at the building and tenants likely won't actually get to move in until August or September at the latest. We will provide you with more information later this afternoon.
Local MP Dave MacKenzie, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Ted McMeekin and Warden Mayberry will in attendance for the grand opening this morning at 18 Vansittart Avenue at 9 a.m.
