Health Canada is recommending against administering the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine to people under 55 following new reports of patients developing blood clots in Europe.
CANADA - Health Canada is recommending the provinces and territories suspend use of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine for people under the age of 55.
This is following new reports of patients in Europe developing blood clots. Most of them were women under 55 and the fatality rate is as high as 40 percent.
Health Canada would like the drugmaker to conduct a detailed study on the risks and benefits of the vaccine across multiple age groups.
The National Committee on Immunizations is also recommending against administering the shot to anyone under 55. It has no plans to rescind it's overall approval of the vaccine at this time.
