Is your favorite local restaurant safe and clean? You can now find out as Oxford Public Health has launched HealthInspectOxford.ca. For the first time, you can easily find health inspection reports on local establishments, or look through a listing. The reports also include details on schools, hospitals, convenience stores, and anywhere that serves food to the public. The inspections posted date back up to 2-years, and identify any concerns, sorted by critical and non-critical infractions. Program Supervisor Elaine Reddick explains what that means, "We're not using ratings here in Oxford, we're just giving the straight-up goods. So an inspector checks for infractions and they're either what we call 'Critical Infractions' - which is something that could directly lead to a food-borne illness, or what we call 'Non-Critical Infractions' - which tend to be more around housekeeping and those types of areas." Reddick says you can also expect a future addition to the site that will outline more severe cases. "There's going to be a separate area that will say 'Legal Actions' - we will note any closures or tickets given. That will be added soon." The website also offers food handling and safety tips for your kitchen.
