Southwestern Public Health has launched a new site that will tell you about current inspections at local restaurants, beauty salons, tattoo parlours and other business.
OXFORD COUNTY - Southwestern Public Health has launched a new web site.
The site gives community members access to information about inspections and enforcement activities in Oxford, Elgin and St. Thomas.
Health Inspect Southwestern offers convenient access to inspection results for local food establishments, as well as personal services like salons, spas and tattoo parlors. Members of the public can also find information about public facilities like swimming pools and splash pads, details about convictions under the Smoke-Free Ontario Act and the Health Protection and Promotion Act, drinking water advisories, beach water quality testing, and much more.
Director of Southwestern Public Health Peter Heywood says that in Ontario, all public health units are required by law to make inspection reports available to the public.
“Health Inspect Southwestern supports our commitment to public transparency and citizen-centered service, through the sharing of inspection and enforcement related information. The new public website and on-site disclosure systems provide patrons of
businesses with timely access to information, which will help them make informed decisions.”
In addition to the new website, businesses and operators in the area are required to post signs indicating the establishment has been inspected and the results are available online. Signs were mailed last week, and they are already popping up in establishments across the region.
