Heath Getting Ready for Paralympic Games

Thamesford's Michael Heath is about to reach his ultimate goal. Health has earned himself a spot on the Canadian Paralympic team for the London Summer Games. Heath will compete in three races in swimming, including his best event, the 100-meter breaststroke. Health tells Heart FM what his ultimate goal is for the games. "It's to go in, enjoy the experience and have fun and do the best as I possibly can. But I hope I can medal. That's my goal, in at least one event. I hope I can make finals in all three. That's one of my other goals." Michael's biggest supporter is his mother, Kelly Heath who tells Heart FM Michael has worked long and hard to get to this point. "It has been a full-time job for many years. So, to realize that what we've worked for, what we've pushed for and what we've lobbied for is finally coming true for Michael...he has the opportunity to go forward and represent his country and be a leader for the S-14 category...it's huge." Michael will be competing in the S-14 category, for athletes with an intellectual disability. His Coach Joni Maertin-Sanders coached Brad Sales to the Paralympic games before, and believes Michael can achieve his goals. "I think if he puts the swim that he can together, he can be on the podium for the 100-meter breaststroke and in the finals of the other two events." The Games run August 29th through September 10th.
