High School Sports to Resume, Under Split Schedule

It's "Game On" for high school sports. The Thames Valley District School Board has announced that TVRA sports will be resuming this spring. Sports, and all extra-curriculars have been on hiatus, due to teachers protest against the provincial government. However, the Thames Valley, and London District Catholic School Board have decided to split up. They will run on separate schedules from here on out. But the winners in each sports will face off in a "District Finals" for the right to move onto the regional WOSSA and provincial OFSAA Championships. Thames Valley Superintendent Laura Elliott explains why, "We wanted to create league play where all schools will participate and should something happen with our public school teachers, that we would allow our partner schools to proceed and have that path through to WOSSA or OFSAA." That's precisely what happened to Catholic School teams this winter, who were blocked from moving onto provincials, because they didn't compete against public schools in a shortened season. LDCSB Superintendent Ed DeDecker says, ?This is a solution that all member school boards of TVRA can live with and places value on our ongoing relationship. We support continuing TVRA with separate schedules so teams from each board can qualify without being dependent on other boards.? French High Schools and other "partner schools" will play in the division with the Catholic School Board.
