The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority and the Long Point Region Conservation Authority want people to stay away from watercourses this weekend.
The Long Point Region Conservation Authority and the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority want the public to be extra cautious around bodies of water over the next couple of days.
Both conservation areas have received around 55 millimetres of rain recently, which has resulted in a rise in the water levels. The banks along the bodies of water may be slippery which could make it easy to fall in. The water will also be fast moving and very cold.
The weather is supposed to be sunny over the weekend, just in time for the Thames River Clean Up and other Earth Day activities. People are being warned to steer clear of ditches, rivers and other bodies of water if they decide to spend some time outside. Parents are being reminded to make sure their kids, pets and livestock stay away from the water as well.
The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority predicts the weekend water levels will be 30 centimetres to 1 metre above normal for this time of the year.
The Long Point Region Conservation Authority has also issued a Watershed Conditions Statement and it will remain in effect until Tuesday.
