The annual event is set to go Sunday in Woodstock
WOODSTOCK -- The annual Hike for Hospice, a national event which takes place across Canada is happening once again this weekend with a local hike in Woodstock.
Kyra McNamara is Fund Development Coordinator with VON Oxford and says all of the money raised in locally this weekend stays in the community to help the local Hospice.
"Our goal, and it looks to be an achievable target for this year's event is around $90,000, so it's almost a full quarter of our annual budget. That really ensures that all of our patients and their families can stay here at the end of their life journey at no charge."
McNamara says annual operating costs for the Hospice are roughly $400,000.
This year's event in Oxford goes at Roth Park on Sunday, May 4th. Those interested in taking part in one of three different hike lengths can show up this Sunday to register.
McNamara says the best part about taking part in the annual hike is knowing the money you help raise stays in the local area.
"So although it's a national event, all of the money raised at our event stays local and goes to benefit the annual operating needs of the hospice."
McNamara says annual operating costs for the Hospice are roughly 400-thousand dollars. She says this year's fundraising goal is 90-thousand dollars -- almost a full quarter of the budget.
She says that trails are fully accessible for those bringing young children in strollers and also accusable for those who have wheelchairs.
A free barbecue lunch will also be provided for participants.
If you're interested in pitching to this year's total -- registration opens 9:00 AM Sunday with the hike beginning at 10:30 AM.
