The Hike for Hospice is this Saturday and the event has surpassed its fundraising goal for VON Sakura House.
WOODSTOCK - There's still time to sign up and donate to the 22nd annual Hike for Hospice.
The walk will takeover Roth Park in Woodstock this Saturday and all of the money raised will be going to VON Sakura House.
It's the only 10-bed residential hospice in Oxford County and Fund Development Manager Chelsea Stephens says it relies on donations from the public.
"So nurses, doctors, and other general healthcare costs are covered. But anything like hydro, groceries, and our roof, which we're repairing right now, those are all things that we cover through fundraising."
Over 100 people volunteer at Sakura House, to make sure that it's guests are comfortable during their stay and to help their family members during their final days with their loved one. Sakura House had a total of 276 patients last year alone.
Registration for the Hike for Hospice starts at 9:00 a.m. this Saturday. Stephens adds there will be a Tribute Ceremony at 10:00 a.m. before the walk gets underway at 10:30 a.m.
"There's three different lengths of hike with a 1km, a 5km, and an 8km. It' starts at 9:00 a.m. and there will also be a children's tent made by Happy Hippo and a grief tent with some councillors this year which is a new addition."
The Sweaburg Lions Club will also serve a barbeque lunch at 11:30 a.m.
You can donate or sign up for Hike for Hospice online here. As of 9:45 a.m. today, the event had already surpassed its $100,000 fundraising goal with $110,570.61 raised.
