The annual event raises funds for VON Sakura House.
WOODSTOCK - This is a last call for those who want to register or donate to the Hike for Hospice.
The event will takeover Roth Park in Woodstock this Saturday with all of the proceeds going to VON Sakura House. It's a 10 bed residential hospital in Woodstock, and Fund Development Coordinator Chelsea Stephens says it relies on funds raised from events like Hike for Hospice.
"We're only partially government funded. Things like heat, hydro, groceries and maintenance on the house are not included so this is what helps us keep that free for patients and their families."
A total of 344 patients stayed at Sakura House in 2024, absolutely free of charge.
Registration for the Hike for Hospice will begin at 9:00 a.m. this Saturday, followed by the tribute ceremony is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., the hike at 10:30 a.m. and a barbeque lunch at 11:00 a.m.
VON Oxford will have a grief support tent onsite, as well as a blood pressure clinic, and volunteers VON's Smart Exercise classes will lead a group warm up before the walk. Kids on site will be able to participate in a scavenger hunt and visit the Happy Hippo tent to do some crafts.
