Hillside Kennels are asking Innerkip residents to help them locate the male swan from a local family.
INNERKIP - It's that time of year again when Hillside Kennels in Innerkip bring a family of swans from Ayr to their facility for the winter.
Owner Tracey Gibson says this is something they have done for years.
"The swans cannot be left in the pond because if the pond freezes over, number one they can be stuck to it. They can literally stick to the ice and get frozen in there and as well all of their food supply is in the water so once the water freezes over, then they wont have any food." Gibson says the swans have lots of room to move around their facility. "It's an old veal barn so it's a big room and they have a pool with some straw in it and they have another pool full of water."
Gibson says they bring the same family to their facility every year but at this point, they are having a hard time find the male. "We can't find him and we are worried something has happened to him. They are older. They are over 20 years old. He was missing an eye, his beak had been -- we are assuming snapping turtles -- his beak was damaged, it's been like that for years. He was limping so we were asking the public to keep an eye out for him. If anybody see him, call us immediately and let us know so we can run down there and grab him."
Gibson says he is a mute swan with an orange bill and clipped wings.
