It is a high honour for the Potters Field Project in Ingersoll, which received the Lieutenant Governor’s Ontario Heritage Award for Excellence in Conservation.

INGERSOLL - A special honour has been given for a project in Ingersoll.

The Potters Field Project focused on the historical "Potter’s Field" area of the Ingersoll Rural Cemetery, and it was awarded the Lieutenant Governor’s Ontario Heritage Award for Excellence in Conservation. Project Lead Cody Groat speaks to what happened with the project.

"This project was about three years long. It included historical research with a team of research students, ground penetrating radar to understand the nature of the unmarked graves and drones and other forms of technology in collaboration with Ingersoll and Zorra."

Groat says being recognized with such a high honour means a lot to everyone involved.

"Having this honour was really rewarding for us to really recognize the significance of that community engagement and to really touch upon how this became a community project."

Groat adds that being able to restore and honour the Potter’s Field section of the Ingersoll Rural Cemetery was a great collaborative effort involving countless contributors, including the Ingersoll Rural Cemetery Board, the Town of Ingersoll, the Township of Zorra, and the Oxford County Library, among others.
