LOS ANGELES - It was a game to remember for baseball fans, regardless of who they are cheering for the in the World Series.
The Blue Jays were narrowly defeated by the Dodgers 6-5 last night. The game went to 18 innings at Dodger Stadium, tying the record for the most innings in World Series history. The Dodgers also made it to 18 innings when they faced off against the Boston Red Sox in Game 3 of the 2018 World Series at Dodger Stadium. The Dodgers also won that game 3-2 in the end.
Last night's game also set a Blue Jays record for total time with six hours and 39 minutes total.
Freddie Freeman hit a walk off homer to end the game in favour of the Dodgers, while also becoming the first player with multiple walk off home runs in World Series history. Freeman has duel Canadian and American citizenship because both of his parents were born in Canada.
Toronto starter Max Scherzer also made history last night, becoming the first player to pitch for four teams in the World Series. He also pitched for the Detroit Tigers in 2012, the Washington Nationals in 2019, and the Texas Rangers in 2023.
Some of the other World Series records set last night include the number of combined pitchers used (19), pitches thrown (609), combined plate appearances (153), and combined runners left on base (37).
Blue Jays designated hitter George Springer had to leave the game early after injuring himself with a swing during the seventh inning. He sustained a right side injury and Manager John Schneider says his status is questionable Game 4.
The Dodgers now lead the best-of-seven championship series 2-1 and they will send Shohei Ohtani to the mound for Game 4 tonight. Shane Bieber will get the start for the Blue Jays.
The Oxford Drive-In screened last night's game for baseball fans and it will be showing Game 4 tonight and Game 5 tomorrow as well. Admission is $5 per person which will be donated to local charities including Jumpstart and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oxford County.
