Ontario NDP Leader Andrea Horwath says the Premier is caving to anti-vaxxers.
The opposition leaders in Ontario say Doug Ford is caving to protestors with his latest announcement.
Starting, Thursday will enter the next stage or reopening, then on March 1st, nearly all mandates and restrictions will be removed, including the vaccine passport. The only restriction still in place after that is the mask mandate and the Premier did not provide a timeline for when that will be lifted.
Ontario NDP Leader Andrea Horwath says the Premier is caving to anti-vaxxers.
"The only people asking for passports to be cancelled are anti-vaxxers and occupiers. The request to scrap vaccine certificates isn’t coming from small businesses, health care experts, or working people. This is Doug Ford caving to anti-vax politics."
Horwath says Ford is taking away an important incentive to get more people vaccinated.
"We want Ontario to be fully open when it’s safe, and to stay that way, including restaurants and gyms, and especially schools. Vaccine certificates are helping keep everything open and protecting us all. Ending vaccine certificates is risky, and scary — for seniors, parents whose little ones are too young to get the shot and everyday folks who want to know that the person on the treadmill next to them at the gym or eating across from them at the diner are vaccinated."
Ontario Liberal Leader Steven Del Duca supports the Premier's decision to ease restrictions but warns they must be cautious. Del Duca also wants to know why Police didn't start arresting protestors in Ottawa this weekend.
"Another day has come and gone and the situation in Ottawa has gotten worse, not better. It’s been 72-hours since the provincial government promised tough action, yet nothing has been done to help release the people of Ottawa from the occupation of their city. No $100,000 fines, no trucks seized."
