PERTH EAST - The Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo & Stratford Perth is looking for donations in order to fund a life-changing surgery for a dog.
The dog was hit by a car in Perth East last week. A witness called the local Humane Society right away and the dog was taken to the Emergency Veterinary Clinic in Cambridge right away.
Dr. Sarah Thompson, the interim veterinary director with the Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo & Stratford Perth, says the dog sustained a fractured back leg, fractured toes, and other wounds.
“Our officers could tell right away that the dog had a badly fractured back leg. But there are always concerns for injuries we can’t see when we know an animal has been hit by a car. The team at EVC took bloodwork and did an ultrasound which thankfully found no internal trauma.”
Veterinarians have determined that the back leg cannot be repaired, so it will be amputated today. The surgery will cost the Humane Society at least $7,000 and you can donate online here.
The Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo & Stratford Perth posted a picture of the dog on it's Facebook page in hopes of finding his owner, but no one has come forward at this time. The Humane Society has given the dog the name Jayce for the time being.
