The Town of Ingersoll would like to plant 4,000 trees by 2040.
INGERSOLL - Ingersoll Town Council is checking off its Strategic Plan quickly as spring comes.
Mayor Brian Petrie expressed the importance of getting things done fast.
“It is important to move quickly on a few of these low-hanging fruit so that we can then move on to the more challenging issues in the Strategic Plan. Since winning the landfill fight, the community has been able to reallocate its resources and move toward accomplishing its Strategic Plan goals. The community is no longer fighting for its survival, it is moving to a stage of self-actualization; what kind of community do we want to become."
Council approved a more tree plan during the March 6th meeting. Lead by the federal government, the plan promised to plant 4,000 trees in Ingersoll by 2040. The hope for the more trees plan is to protect and increase urban tree cover.
The approval was a major milestone for Ingersoll, coming less than a month after they approved the trails vision. This will help contribute to the development and upkeep of local trails.
