The Ingersoll BIA is offering BIA bucks once again and you can redeem them at 35 locations in the downtown core.
INGERSOLL - The Ingersoll BIA has brought back BIA bucks to spend at local downtown businesses.
The popular program ended in December and they brought it back this month. The plan is to have it run for a year. You can purchase the BIA dollars at four businesses in town, Lesser Jewellers, Heavenly Sweets, The Olde Bakery Cafe and Young's Pharmacy. The BIA bucks can be used at 35 locations in downtown Ingersoll.
Ingersoll Councillor Gordon Lesser says this is just one way to help local businesses get back on track with COVID-19.
"If you wanted to purchase $10 worth of BIA bucks, you pay $9 but you redeem them at those 35 stores for the $10 value, so it is a 10% savings on your purchases."
Lesser says it's more important than ever to shop local as small businesses try to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
"When you need something for your school, or your church group, small door prize, that kind of thing, nothing against the big box stores, but they don't really hand out anything, so you come to the small merchants and you lose that community feel when you lose it."
The BIA will make up the difference for the merchants. The BIA Bucks will be printed in $5, $10 and $25 denominations and the maximum redeemable amount would be $200 worth of BIA Bucks for any one sale. There is no change expected to be given on a purchase using BIA Bucks, and the BIA bucks hold no cash value.
You can find more details about the program and participating businesses online here.
