Councillors for the Town of Ingersoll will now get a $150 per diem.
INGERSOLL - The Town of Ingersoll is doubling the per diem allowance for their councillors.
Council voted in favour of changing the daily allowance from $75 to $150.
Chief Administrative Officer William Tigert says the discussion took place around what would be an adequate number in our current environment.
"Of course a lot of these trips involve their training and seminars or participation and organizations in the Greater Toronto Area where costs tend to be a little higher than in our local area. They debated whether $100 was suitable or whether $150 was more."
He says this is a pretty standard methodology for reimbursing individuals for their out of pocket expenses.
Tigert says it's surprisingly not that difficult to add the per diem estimates into the budget as councillors will indicate ahead of time some of the events they plan to attend.
Tigert says the old rate of $75 a day had been in place for over ten years.
Since it's a per diem, Councillor's will receive the full $150 per day when on business, regardless if they use it all or not.
