Henrietta Mulder is hoping to raise $15,000 for childhood cancer research during this year's Great Cycle Challenge and she has launched monthly prize draws to help reach her goal.
OXFORD COUNTY - A 75-year-old Ingersoll woman is biking for a cause and raising money to fight childhood cancer.
Henrietta Mulder has been participating in the Great Cycle Challenge for 6 years. With the help of friends, family, local businesses, and the community, Mulder biked 2,468 kilometres far and has raised a total of $75,601.05 for the cause.
She says that this year her goal will be $15,000. All proceeds raised during the event will go to cancer research at Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto.
In order to reach her fundraising goal, Mulder is holding monthly prize draws with donations from local businesses. This month's prize package is valued over $1,000 and it includes gift vouchers from Coyles Country Store, The Mill, Makkink Flower Farm, Tillsonburg Flying School, and more. It costs $25 to enter the draw and those interested can send Mulder a message over Facebook.
The Great Cycle Challenge is one of Canada's largest cycling events. Last year the event saw 15,849 riders across Canada cycle for the cause.
Riders can choose to do their route however they feel comfortable, and Henrietta will be working on her 400 KM goal in August.
