The decision allows investors to spend less time in meetings and see action sooner.
INGERSOLL - The Town of Ingersoll has made a crucial change in order to streamline its site plan process.
At Monday's Council meeting, it was decided that elected politicians would be removed from the town's Development Coordinating Committee, which reviews site plan applications for industrial, commercial, and multi-unit residential development.
It can sometimes be difficult to get everyone together for meetings involving politicians and their busy schedules. Mayor Brian Petrie said that the decision allows investors to spend less time in meetings and see action sooner.
"This aligns with our and the province's goals of making it easier for development to happen while at the same time ensuring the development meets the requirements of the Municipality."
What Mayor Petrie is referencing is Bill 109, passed by Ontario on April 22, which requires municipal councils to delegate site plan control decisions to staff as per all applications received on or after July 1.
Other municipalities in the area that already do not include politicians on the site plan committees are London, Woodstock, and Norwich.
