(ofsaa.com)

15 year old Brayden Todd is coming off a gold medal performance at the National Wrestling Championships.

INGERSOLL - The accolades keep pouring in for Ingersoll native Brayden Todd who won gold at the National Wrestling Championships in New Brunswick at the young age of 15.  Todd started training at the age 8, practicing 4 days a week with his Dad, Sunny, watching and supporting his son achieve great success at such a young age. Brayden shared how he manages to beat competitors larger than himself after he defeated a grade 12 student at Nationals.

"I've won quite a bit this year OFSAA, TVRAA, WOSSA, and Nationals.  I'm in grade 9 and I have been wrestling for 8 years, I just try to treat them like any other athlete not give them the respect."

Sunny Todd is pleased with his son’s progression. Brayden  is currently in the off season and still needs to practice heavily, "we have to train a lot harder when you are going to something bigger, then a lot of conditioning to make sure your body is ready for that level of intensity and everything.”

“I hope that I can win it again, and in the off season I will train 2-3 days a week.  It is hard to get your school work done and go to wrestling; it is a long drive so you can do it in the car," said Brayden.

Brayden's father has always believed his son had potential even when others didn't and hopes one day to watch him compete in the Olympics.

"I could, but I think a lot of people didn't, he just keeps getting better and better every year.  I always thought that free time is the worst thing for a kid, so I keep him busy.”

“He has been working four days a week for 8 years solid."

Brayden will continue to practice at camps in the United States and with the Varsity team at Western University all summer to defend his title of National Champion once again next year.
