The Norwich Fire Department will host an information training session tonight for those wanting to volunteer with them. The Fire Chief will review the requirements needed.
NORWICH - If you're interested in joining the Norwich Fire Service, they're looking to recruit volunteers.
They'll be looking for a total of five volunteers throughout the region, with an information training night planned for this Wednesday, September 25th.
Lead Public Fire and Safety Educator Derek Van Pagee says there are benefits to joining them.
"To those who are thinking about it, it's a great way to give back to your community, it's a sense of comradery, working together as a team is just unparallel. Let's be honest you get to play with some real cool equipment too and at the end of the day you're a firefighter, so you're going to go in and you're going to see some things you don't necessarily like to see and where everyone else is heading the other way you're going to be heading into something. But at the same time, I think there's great reward in knowing that you're giving back and doing what's right."
Pagee says they're looking to hire one firefighter for the Oxford Centre Hall, two firefighters for the fire hall in Otterville and two for the Norwich Fire Hall.
He says the public will be informed on different topics while in the meeting.
"The Fire Chief will be hosting it and he's actually just going to be going over what our training plan is going to look like for new recruits, what you would all have to do, what are some of the pre-requirements to get into becoming a volunteer firefighter."
He adds people will also learn about what the compensation is for being a volunteer firefighter.
The meeting is set for tonight September 25th starting at 7:00 pm at the Norwich Fire Hall. For those who are unable to make the recruit information night, applications can be picked up at the Norwich Township Office at 285767 Airport Road Norwich, and submitted to the same location between 8:30 a.m to 4:30 pm., placed in the drop box at this location or by email to fireadmin@norwich.ca by 4:00 p.m. on October 9, 2019.
