Dr. Fullerton joined Heart FM this morning to talk about LTC homes getting more air conditioning and how the pandemic has shed a light on the way our elderly have been treated in the Province.
Long Term Care Homes in Ontario will have air conditioning this summer.
Right now, only 60 percent of LTC homes are fully air conditioned, including all resident rooms. Last year that number was at 42 percent and the Province announced yesterday, they are working towards getting another 23 percent air conditioned.
In April the Government updated regulations under the Long Ter Care Homes Act of 2007, which requires designated cooling areas of all homes. With the announcement of more funding, the Province will be 100 percent in compliance with this regulation for the first time ever.
Minister of Long Term Care in Ontario Dr. Merrilee Fullerton recently joined Heart FM for an exclusive interview. She talks about keeping seniors cool this summer and why it has taken so long to reach 100 percent compliance. Dr. Fullerton also discusses how the pandemic has shed a light on how bad a shape Long Term Care homes in the Province are in and the work being done to correct this problem.
