Mayor Jerry Acchione is away, so Acting Mayor Mark Schadenberg joined Dan and Marcie on the Heart FM Morning Show today.

WOODSTOCK - The old Woodstock Hospital site is on the agenda for this week's City Council meeting.

The developer is planning on adding 23 detached homes to the area with 12 fronting on Vincent Street and 11 fronting on Brant Street they're requesting another extension for the project.

Acting Mayor Mark Schadenberg explains why.

"They are requesting for an extension to August 16th of 2028 and they used the term 'quietness of the real estate market' as to why want to add another extension to this."

A plan for the old Salvation Army property on Huron Street is also on the agenda for Thursday, after the proposal was deferred at the last meeting. That developer is looking to build a 64 unit multiple stacked townhouse dwelling.

You can read more about the hospital site development online here and the Huron Street development online here.

Woodstock City Council is also a summary of the city's Reserve Funds, Trust Funds and Reserve for Capital Projects this Thursday. This will include the $275,000 that was set aside for the new North Woodstock Community Complex during the 2026 budget deliberations.

Schadenberg says this is only the beginning, and a fundraising committee will also be formed sometime in the near future.

"I still remember when the Reeves Community Complex opened in 1996, about 10 percent of that money was raised specifically by the community for that gymnastics centre, twin pad arena and Goff Hall that is there now. The price tag was over $25 million and more than 10 percent was specifically raised by the city."

This Thursday's City Council meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. and it will be livestreamed on the City of Woodstock YouTube page. You can also find the meeting agenda online here.

Schadenberg also discussed the following during his interview this morning:

- A grant from Green and Inclusive Community Buildings Program, which will benefit the fourth floor renovations at the Woodstock Art Gallery.

- Voting for Woodstock's official bird.

- Discussions surrounding provincial/federal changes to development charges.
