Some big topics were discussed during the latest Warden interview on the Heart FM Morning Show.
OXFORD COUNTY - Some major topics were discussed at the latest Oxford County Council meeting.
Warden Marcus Ryan was on the Heart FM Morning Show today and talked about the big ticket items from the agenda of yesterday's meeting. The first item was council signing off on a Climate Action Plan. Warden Ryan says it's one of the goals identified in Oxford County’s Strategic Plan.
"When we did consultation with the public on it, 71% of people consulted said they had a level of anxiety around climate change and what it would mean. But I mean, it means different things to all kinds of people. And this report, and I would encourage people to read it, is available, as with almost all of our documents, they're available publicly online."
It focuses primarily on preparedness and resiliency, while also looking at awareness and strategies for groundwater protection, extreme heat, flood resiliency and more. Another topic discussed was the potential for housing units coming to Tillsonburg. Warden Ryan says what was involved.
"So, a developer purchased a piece of unused land in Tillsonburg and put forward a proposal for a three-and-a-half-story, 24-unit stacked townhome. And the community around it didn't particularly want this."
Ryan says he has gotten lots of emails, and lots of people came to the council chambers for the meeting yesterday. He adds Tillsonburg council did not approve the zone change for the land, but it then came to the County for an official plan amendment, which ended with the County approving the development plan.
