Introducing the Woodstock City Council for 2022-2026

The inauguration ceremony for the new Woodstock City Council was held at City Hall last night.

WOODSTOCK - The new Woodstock City Council has officially been sworn in.

The Inaugural Meeting took place last night at City Hall, where Deputy Judge Trudy Mauth invested Mayor Jerry Acchione with the Chain of Office. He called the night "absolutely incredible."

"It's felt like my wedding day all day long. That nervous excitement, you've been prepared all day long and you just can't wait for it to happen. That's what today felt like."

Mayor Acchione is joined by City-County Councillors Deb Tait and Bernia Wheaton, as well as City Councillors Kate Leatherbarrow, Liz Wismer-Van Meer, Connie Lauder, and Mark Schadenberg.

Acchione also commented on the opportunity to work with this new Council.

"I'm ecstatic. I think we have such a great cross-section of the community representing us here at City Hall. I think all of the community is going to be quite pleased moving forward. I'm really going to enjoy working with them."

Yesterday's ceremony included inaugural addresses from all members of Council, where they were able to thank voters, friends, family, and everyone who supported them. However, and perhaps most importantly, they were able to give a mission statement to the people of Woodstock. Acchione stressed that open communication will be a huge focus for Council.

"I want to make sure everybody knows how transparent [we're going to be] and how much communication we're going to have."

The 2022-2026 Woodstock City Council will get to work together for the first time tomorrow at the first Council meeting since being sworn in.
