Before he runs to raise money for the Heart and Stroke Foundation next month, Brett Opthof of Woodstock will be running in Oxford County and he is inviting the community to join him.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock's Brett Opthof will be going on a run through Oxford County during the Civic Holiday weekend.
Opthof says it is to raise awareness on his journey from Tobermory to Niagara, which will be 898 km, beginning on August 31st.
"So for the Bruce Trail run I want to be averaging in between 80 to 90 kilometres a day. And it's going to be a little bit cooler, a different terrain obviously, a little bit harder terrain and I'll be going at a little bit of a slower pace. But for the Civic weekend I'll be going at a little bit quicker pace, same type of distances per day but the temperature is going to be a little bit warmer."
Opthof says that by running these distances it'll be prepare his body for the long distance. He says it will help him get ready for his run on Labour Day weekend.
"Anybody is more than welcome to come and run, bike with me for the Civic weekend I have no problem with that, and actually I encourage it. Even if people are training for a marathon or training for half a marathon and they want to come out and do maybe 10 kilometres, 20 kilometres or whatever. I'm more than welcoming anybody that wants to come out."
He adds he'll be posting the routes he'll be running next weekend on his Facebook page to update the community.
He'll start at the Upper Thames Brewing Company on August 2nd at 4:00 pm. It will go until August 4th, but depending on the weather he may end it the following day.
