It's the third annual Lights of Love event, where hundreds of mora lanterns are lit to recognize someone special.
OXFORD - The deadline to purchase a lantern for the VON Sakura House Lights of Love fundraiser is fast approaching.
Tomorrow is the final day to register to take part in the third annual tribute celebration where hundreds of mora lanterns will be lit to honour someone special, whether they're still with us or not. To get a lantern, it's a minimum $25 donation, and you can find the link here.
The event takes place this Friday at 6 p.m. and it is virtual, which means in order to see your lantern lit at the end of the event, you'll have to watch the live stream on the VON Sakura House Facebook page.
Fund Development Coordinator at VON Oxford Michelle Dykstra says there will also be guest speakers at the event.
"During the celebration, we have guest speakers that will come and talk about Sakura House and a family speaker that's had some recent experience with Sakura House. That's always a very touching part of the evening that we like to go through."
Sakura House is a 10-bed hospice that was donated to VON Oxford by Toyota. It opened in 2009, and it provides free end-of-life care for patients and their families. The government pays for nurses and practitioners, however, the rest of the budget comes entirely from fundraising events like Lights of Love.
Donations are accepted at any time in-person at Sakura House and the Woodstock office or online here.
VON Oxford's Felise Jones and Michelle Dykstra joined Dan and Marcie in the studio this morning to talk about Lights of Love.
