Those thinking about running for the Ward 2 council seat in Norwich Township must submit their paperwork before 2:00 p.m. tomorrow.
NORWICH TOWNSHIP - The 2023 by-election is starting to take shape.
Nominations for the Norwich Township by-election are currently open, but Chief Administration Officer Lee Robinson says the deadline is fast approaching.
"So effectively, Friday August 4th at 2:00 p.m. is the last possible date that anybody could file paperwork to able to run in the by-election."
There are two certified candidates at this time. Former Ward 2 Councillor Lynne DePlancke has put her name forward, as well as William Van Lagen. Van Lagen ran for the council seat last year and placed second with 392 votes.
Robinson explains how you can go about getting your name in the mix.
"You basically have to say, I would like to go ahead. Then there is a process and package of information and certain signatures that you would fill out and complete. At which point you would have to submit those to the clerk at the Township."
Once nominations are closed, the Township does not have the option of adding or deleting any of the certified candidates from the list.
Voting will be open to Ward 2 residents only and will take place in September, with the advance poll being Saturday, September 9th, and regular voting taking place on Monday, September 18th.
