Ernie Hardeman sworn in today at Queen's Park

TORONTO - It's the first time in five years Ernie Hardeman returned to Queen's Park without a Bill to reintroduce. 

"Now I'm looking forward to getting back into the needs of our local communities such as dealing with the Ministry of Environment on the proposed landfill in Zorra Township and also with the new Minister of Agriculture to make sure that he is dealing with the challenges that our agriculture community is facing."

The local MPP was sworn in as Tim Hudak formally stepped down as Leader of the Progressive Conservatives. 

Hardeman says he was happy Jim Wilson was selected as interim leader, as that is who he voted for.

"The job of an interim leader of course is to take care of business as we are picking a new leader and it's not to change the direction of the party and as in opposition, the direction is just to hold the government accountable and the interim leader will do that."

"The other large function that the interim leader will have is to make sure that we have a very open and fair leadership race. To make sure that as the executive sets up the process on how it has to be done, to make sure that as we move forward here at Queen's Park that everyone who is running for Queen's Park is treated fairly and equally."

Hardeman said this was the first time he was part of a mass swearing in, instead of the individual way it is normally done. 

It was also the first time in 20 years Hardeman's entire family was on hand for the swearing in.
