Lions Club Donates to Sakura House, Animal Rescue Fund

Some local animals will get medical attention they need, and Oxford County's hospice house will is getting needed operation funding, thanks to a pair of donations from Woodstock's Lions Club today. A total of $7500 was split between two local causes today. $5000 for Sakura House, and $2500 for the Rescue Fund. Lions Club member Jacqueline Newton explains, "The funding actually came through the Lions Club variety and comedy show and we chose these beneficiaries based on somewhat personal passions, the Rescue Relief Fund and Sakura House." In the case of Wellington Animal Hospital, partner and Vet Donna Flanagan says it will help save the lives of animals in the community. "The money is going towards animals that have an illness or a sickness that need that extra care and normally wouldn't get it, or they'd be put down. We do the care at cost. The staff donates their time so this allows us to do more with the cost of the medications and drugs and a little bit of the housing and food are covered by the donations." The fund was just started in the spring, after a seed donation was made by a former Wellington Animal Hospital client, who had rescued many animals in her time, and wanted the hospital to continue that on. Vet Donna Flanagan says the animals who make a recovery are then adopted out. "There's a very nominal fee to adopt out, that goes back into the fund. We microchip all animals that leave, they all get spade and neutered and get vaccinated before they go to their new home." Visit the rescue fund Facebook page for more info.
