Extra community service has paid off for 6 local students. Last Monday, the students received $1000 bursaries from the Lions Club of Woodstock for their "exemplary service". The students were selected from a much larger group of applicants for the bursaries. (In top photo: L-R Lion Bill Gillespie, Madalyn Ruby, Marissa Ukos, Lisa Liu, Lions Club President Henri Callebert, Garrett Elmes, Stephanie Wiseman, Jessalyn Teed, Lion Al Huras, Lion Peter Ewing.) The Lions Club is also welcoming a new incoming President. Chief Henri Callebert turned over the gavel to Incoming President Lion Jennifer Harrington (in bottom photo). Woodstock's Club mandate for the year is Sight Conservation. Harrington's appointment is significant, as she is visibly impaired and relies on the services of a dog guide. The Lions Clubs in Canada have their own dog breeding and training schools in Oakville for dog guides for people with vision problems, hearing difficulties, seizures, autism and other special needs.
