The provincial government is looking to help Oxford County's auto industry according to our local MPP Ernie Hardeman.
OXFORD COUNTY - The provincial government is planning on creating and protecting jobs in the auto industry in Oxford County according to our local MPP.
The Ontario government announced in a press release on February 14th, they've come up with a plan that sets out a ten year vision on how the auto industry and three levels of government can strengthen the auto sector in the province.
Oxford MPP Ernie Hardeman says it's a good investment for Ontario.
"It's good to see an initiative to start encouraging re-investment and investment coming into our province. Obviously we've seen a decline, we've seen companies leaving, or going to leave, and looking at the reasons they're doing that all of a sudden I think we have to make sure that we have an economy in place and a process in place that will get those investments to consider coming to Ontario."
Hardeman adds this will also benefit the economy in Oxford County.
"I think the biggest thing in it is to try and build job security for those jobs. Obviously, when people no longer invest here or move out of here is because the opportunities to build cars at more profit is elsewhere. We have to have an economy where those companies want to come here by choice because it's a good place and a good economy to do business in."
Hardeman says the plan will also help promote innovation and help acquire and retain more talent for the sector.
