Local Medical Officer of Health Dr. Joyce Lock joined Heart FM to talk about the one year anniversary of the first local COVID-19 case. She also indicated at least 3 local pharmacies will be administering vaccines soon.
OXFORD/ELGIN/ST.THOMAS - It's been one year since the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in the Southwestern Public Health Region.
It's not an anniversary anyone wants to celebrate, but it is a milestone nevertheless. Local Medical Officer of Health Dr. Joyce Lock joined Cody and Chris today to talk about that anniversary. One of the biggest differences between this year to last, is we have a vaccine. Dr. Lock says the vaccine rollout in our region is moving along, with seniors 75 and older now booking appointments. She also let us know that we can expect local pharmacies to start carrying vaccines in the coming weeks.
"They have finished the pilot sites at pharmacies in other parts of the Province and we understand that in the very near future, at minimum, 3 pharmacies will be identified in every health unit. We are looking to get 3, maybe even 6 pharmacies in the coming weeks and we are going to advocate to have those in regions where people don't have easy access to the mass immunization clinics that are now at Woodstock and St. Thomas."
You can check out the full interview with Dr. Lock below where she also discusses the following:
- Looking back on the 1 year anniversary of COVID-19 in the Southwestern Public Health Region and the work our community has done to help and try to protect those most vulnerable.
- An update on the school closures in Woodstock, what lead to those decisions and explaining the quarantine procedures for staff, students and family members.
- The variants of concern in our region and what we should know about them.
- An update on the vaccine rollout locally.
