A Woodstock Woman received a call on Friday from a man who attempted to steal a large sum of money from her.
WOODSTOCK - Local police are warning residents about a scam in the area after a 78 year old Woodstock woman fell victim on February 26th.
At around 5am, the woman answered a phone call from a man who claimed to work for the TD Canada Trust Fraud Department. He identified himself as Alex and he asked the woman if she sent $600 to India recently.
When she told him that she didn't, the man informed her that he was working with the RCMP and he was trying to catch TD employees who are committing fraud. He asked the woman to help him catch the crooks and gained remote access to her computer. He then tried to withdraw a large amount of money, but the transaction was intercepted by police.
If you ever receive a phone call like this, be sure to contact the Woodstock Police Service at 519-537-2323.
