Police are warning the public that if something seems to good to be true it probably is after a senior from Norfolk lost over $27,000 in a lottery scam.
NORFOLK COUNTY - A senior from Norfolk County is out $27,500 after falling victim to a lottery scam.
Police say the senior got a call on Tuesday afternoon saying they had won $785,000 from the New York State Lottery. They were told that in order to claim the prize, they would have to pay the taxes in advance.
Unfortunately in this case, the senior sent a total of $27,500 to a fake New York address. Police were contacted when family members discovered the scam.
The OPP is warning all Norfolk County residents that if anyone should receive a call from an unknown person indicating that you have won any type of lottery or new vehicle, to please hang up the phone, this is a scam.
