Melody James received $1,000 in a viral video by influencer Zachary Dereniowski.
OXFORD COUNTY - It was a welcome donation from a member of the Big Brothers Big Sisters family.
Melody James was part of the community based one-on-one mentoring program through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oxford County and later went on to become a volunteer and a high school co-op student with the organization.
She started a small business called Wave & Worth where she sells necklaces and bracelets in support of mental health.
She was recently featured in a viral video online, where influencer Zachary Dereniowski surprised her with a $1,000 donation. He also took her to Toronto to meet her idol Post Malone, where she gave him one of her necklaces before he hit the stage at Rogers Centre on May 26th.
James donated the $1,000 to BBBS Oxford yesterday because the organization made a huge impact on her during her own mental health journey.
Executive Director Kristen Ralph is proud of how far James has come and says her donation will inspire youth in Oxford County.
"Melody’s incredible generosity is a reflection of the powerful impact that mentoring relationships can
have, we are beyond grateful, and deeply inspired, by Melody’s commitment to helping others. Her donation is a spark that we hope ignites a wave of support from our wider community. Now is the time to stand with young people in Oxford County. If Melody’s story moved you, we invite you to donate to us or another youth support agency in Oxford County in honour of Melody and be part of something life-changing."
James also stopped by the Heart FM studio to chat with Dan and Marcie yesterday. Stay tuned for the full interview.
