Saturday will be "ask the experts day" on the Walker landfill proposal. The Community Liaison Committee is getting a chance to ask all of the 13 technical experts working on the dump proposal questions. A panel of all 13 of them will be available for the committee to question in a day-long meeting. Those questions will be considered as they draft their work plans for a mega-dump in Beachville. (Photo right - proposed landfill location) However, Mike Farlow, who sits on the committee isn't happy the meeting is being held at Walkers' office in Ingersoll. He wants it held at the Beachville Museum to give the public greater access. "We were told during the meetings that however we wanted to structure it is how Walker would put it together. Now we're finding out that saying so, doesn't make it so because they're trying to put it in a format that isn't what we asked for at all." Walker General Manager, Joe Lyng, says he's aware of the request, but still intends on holding the meeting at Walker's office. He says public who want to attend can pre-register. "We have room for about 10 observers. We've got some already pre-registered, and we ask anyone that wants to come to pre-register with us. But the meeting will be recorded, as been the practice with CLC meetings, it will be recorded, and then a transcript will be made available on-line, once it's complete." Lyng says there will be ample opportunity for public feedback, including another public meeting on May 14th at the Quality Hotel & Suites. That meeting runs from 2-8PM. He says Walker will also take question and concerns by phone, e-mail, written letter, or in-person at Walker's office at 160 Carnegie Street. They are working towards submitting their draft "Terms of Reference" on the landfill in late-May, which will be followed by a 30-day public comment period before the final Terms of Reference are submitted, followed by another public comment period.
