It's a heartbreaking story for a young girl that was so close to seeing her dreams come true. 7-year-old Olivia Romkes of Burgessville was supposed to leave this morning on a trip to Disney World, through the Make-a-Wish Foundation. However, Olivia, who has been battling leukemia for the last 2-and-a-half-years, became ill last week. Her mother, Carolyn, noticed she was running a fever and took her to London's Sick Kids Hospital where they detected her fighter-cell count was low. "It turned out to be basically the common cold. But for Olivia and all the other little kids and adults out there with cancer, it's a lot harder to fight." So, the Romkes family had to cancel the planned trip to Disney World when they were oh-so-close to leaving. Carolyn says her daughter is a strong girl, she's been fighting leukemia for over 2-years, but she was sad in having to postpone the trip. Olivia tells Heart FM what she was most looking forward to. "I wanted to see the big castle there, and Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse." Olivia was also looking forward to her first limo ride and first plane ride. The good news is that Make-A-Wish still intends to send Olivia to Disney World in October.
