Bill Mates will serve a year in prison, stemming from his admission to sexually exploiting an underage girl. Ingersoll's former Economic Development Director was sentenced today to a year in jail, followed by two years of probation. Mates stunned the community in March when he pleaded guilty to a charge of sexual exploitation, as his 2-week trial was set to begin. Mates admitted to a sexual encounter with a 17-year-old girl he was chaperoning on a trip in Africa for high achieving youth, through the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh program. The victim in the case, who's now 23-year-old, read a victim impact statement in court today, describing difficulties she continues to grapple with since the incident.
