Former Cambridge Mayor and Liberal Cabinet Minister Kathryn McGarry is now the president of the Ontario Liberal Party.
ONTARIO - A former Mayor of Cambridge is now the president of the Ontario Liberal Party.
Kathryn McGarry officially stepped into the position during the party's annual general meeting in Hamilton yesterday.
She served a single term as the Mayor of Cambridge, but she lost her re-election bid last year.
Before entering municipal politics, McGarry served as the transportation minister and the minister of natural resources under former Liberal premier Kathleen Wynne. She lost her seat in the Cambridge riding in 2018.
The Ontario Liberal Party now has to set the rules and timelines for the upcoming leadership race, after Steven Del Duca stepped down as party leader last year. The party members voted in favour of a one-member-one-vote system yesterday, instead of a delegated convention.
