Members of Hockey Canada 2003 Men's Junior Team Accused of Sexual Assault

Hockey Canada says members of its 2003 world junior team are being investigated for a group sexual assault.

More hot water for Hockey Canada.

The organization has released a statement, saying members of its 2003 world junior team are being investigated for a group sexual assault.

Hockey Canada says it learned about the alleged incident yesterday after being contacted by a reporter, though it had previously heard rumours about an incident at the 2003 World Juniors in Halifax.

"Prior to receiving Mr. Westhead’s email, two weeks ago, Hockey Canada staff heard a rumour about "something bad at the 2003 World Juniors" but were given no details of any sort" the organization notes in a statement. "We immediately reported this information to Sport Canada. In order to learn more, Hockey Canada hired a third-party investigator to try to find more information. They were unable to learn anything before we received the details mentioned above in an email from Mr. Westhead."

The organization says it has been in touch with Halifax Regional Police about the allegations, as Halifax was the co-host city of the 2003 world junior championship.

Hockey Canada also notes it has contacted Sport Canada about the information that was shared.

The organization has faced a significant fallout after it settled a sexual lawsuit two months ago.

The suit was filed by a woman who claimed she was assaulted four years ago by members of the country's 2018 world junior team.

Halifax police have confirmed they are investigating the alleged incident at the 2003 World Juniors, and London Police say they have re-opened their case regarding the 2018 team.
