Minister of Energy Todd Smith paid a visit to the Oxford Hills in Mount Elgin yesterday to celebrate the launch of Green Button data through ERTH Power.
MOUNT ELGIN - ERTH Power has officially launched Green Button data for homes and businesses in Oxford, Elgin, Perth and Huron.
This means consumers will be able to monitor their real time energy consumption data, so they can have more control over their monthly bills.
Minister of Energy Todd Smith stopped by the Oxford Hills in Mount Elgin yesterday to celebrate the launch. He says families and businesses want to be in the drivers seat when it comes to their monthly bills.
"Green Button is part of our commitment to give consumers more choice when it comes to their energy use and will enable easy, quick and safe access to their consumption data through smartphone or computer apps so they can find customized tips to reduce energy use or switch electricity price plans to save money."
Oxford MPP Ernie Hardeman says this is great news for our community.
"I’m pleased to see that Green Button is coming to homes and businesses across our region. Giving local consumers access to their real-time energy consumption data means they can take immediate steps to reduce their energy usage, reduce their environmental footprint and save money all at the same time."
Chris White, the President and CEO of the ERTH Corporation, says consumers will benefit from Green Button energy monitoring.
“We are pleased to be among the first utilities in Ontario to be certified through the Green Button Alliance, and look forward to deploying Green Button data to our customers within the coming months. Additionally, we are proud to
be working with numerous utility partners to facilitate Green Button data for consumers across Ontario."
Studies have found that being able to access energy data through Green Button and smart home devices can result in energy savings up to 18 percent.
The Ford Government introduced Customer Choice energy rates back in November 2020. This means Ontarians can choose if they would prefer a time-of-use or tiered billing structure for their energy bills.
