More Scams in Woodstock

Woodstock Police are warning the public about a water company and Lifeline scam in the Friendly City.

WOODSTOCK - Woodstock Police are warning the public about a couple of scams making the rounds locally.

Police say residents are getting calls from scanners who pretend to work for a water company. They said they needed to come by the home to check on their water. The victim called their water company and their water company confirmed they do not have anyone attending their neighbourhood to test water.

Another scam happening in Woodstock right now is a letter in the mail claiming to be from Lifeline indicating a number the victim needed to call. The victim contacted the number they already had on file for Lifeline and confirmed that Lifeline had not changed their contact information and the number provided by mail rang to the US to a company not affiliated with Lifeline at all.

If you have a feeling that something is “off” or “not right” trust your instincts! Follow up with the contact numbers you already have for businesses you are affiliated with to confirm validity of the service. Often scanners will be aggressive with their offering of services or demand for money.
